Hello, my name is Helena Wallace, and my topic is about Differentiation through Technology.
Curriculum standards tell educators what students should be learning at specific stages of development and how to assess the application of that knowledge. According to Pak et al. (2020), a standards-based curriculum is focused on “rigorous academic standards and accountability measures” (p.1), so the use of technology to create engaging lessons that deliver personalized instruction is essential. According to Hughes and Roblyer, technology integration in a classroom is affected by “leadership, policies, infrastructure, safety, and equity and justice” (p.13), so focusing on state standards, the needs of the community and the school population, creates a sense of belonging while promoting collaboration and growth.
In my classroom, we use technology daily; every student has a Chromebook, and we use it to practice concepts, participate in classroom discussions, and view educational videos. I also provide students with technology choice boards that allow them to choose the platform and format that they use to complete assignments. Technology connects my students to the world outside the classroom and allows them to collaborate with others while pursuing their interests.

Written response to classmates
Samantha,
As you stated, when students feel that they have a voice in the classroom, they become engaged in their learning process, and by giving them choices on how they access information and present their understanding, they become self-motivated and active participants. In my classroom, when I develop learning activities, I look for ways to use printed text, visual or graphic displays, interactive learning platforms, and auditory versions of the same material so I can reach all types of learners. As far as the presentation of material, I encourage students to use their skills to be creative and original and to take ownership and be proud of what they have produced.
Anna,
When you say that an effective teacher is one who can create instruction to accommodate state standards, the needs of students, and technology use in a classroom, you are correct. State standards describe overall goals that students must meet at a certain level of development; however, it is the teacher’s responsibility to adapt those objectives to reach all students in the classroom. Technology integration in schools has given teachers the tools needed to diversify learning and create unique instructional opportunities for each student. By focusing on individual interests and strengths as well as scaffolding lessons to meet needs, teachers can help students progress in their learning and make connections between classroom material and the world they live in.
